Meg Faure's BabySense Book
A great book for first time mums - with advice on solving
all sorts of baby problems - particularly sleep and sensory disorders.
A MUST for mums of fussy babies as it helps sort out routines and gives
help on monitoring baby's sensory environment. I just wish I had it before
Megan was born so that I could have known what to do for the colic from
day one! - Sally, Cape Town
The Contented Little Baby Book
Controversial as it may be, I am a huge fan of The Contented
Little Baby Book by Gina Ford. Yes, you have to be the kind of person
who likes routine and sticking to (all) the rules if you are going to
make it work for you and your baby, but I have yet to experience a problem
with Katrena's sleep which "The Book" couldn't solve. As a first-time
mother with absolutely no clue what to do with my little bundle and when
to do it, I found it hugely reassuring to be able to follow the step-by-step
instructions given in this routine. They may look rediculously detailed
when you read them in advance, but when I was sleep-deprived and in a
daze of hormones, I was very grateful to be reminded when I should be
eating and resting as well as when my baby should be doing the same.
Every time I hear someone say "Why isn't there a manual for parenting
like there is for everything else?" I tell them that The Contented
Little Baby Book and its sequels, The Contented Little Baby Book of Weaning
and From Contented Baby to Confident Child, is it! And as for the criticism
that it involves traumatic controlled crying, I found that we never needed
to do that because Katrena never had the sleep problems so many other
babies did. Now if someone could just tell me where the manual for breastfeeding
can be found, Number Two's arrival in September should be a breeze!?
